Commissioner Harry Hazwell Kanjewe is a seasoned public administrator and governance expert with extensive experience spanning both the public and private sectors. He brings to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) a wealth of knowledge in public finance management, institutional leadership, and strategic governance.

Before his appointment to MEC, Commissioner Kanjewe served in several high-level positions within Malawi’s public service and development sectors. He worked as Principal Secretary and Commissioner for Refugees in the Ministry of Homeland Security, where he provided leadership in refugee management and policy coordination. Prior to that, he was Chief Director at the National Registration Bureau, overseeing the expansion and modernization of Malawi’s national identity registration system — one of the country’s most significant public sector digitization projects.

His earlier experience includes serving as Director of Finance at ADMARC Limited, where he was instrumental in strengthening corporate financial systems and improving accountability frameworks. Commissioner Kanjewe also served as Director of Finance and Administration at Deadline Technologies, providing strategic direction in financial planning and organizational management.

Beyond his work in government, Commissioner Kanjewe has international experience as an Expert Consultant with the UNDP Global Policy Network (ExpRes), where he has provided policy and advisory support on governance, institutional development, and public sector reform initiatives.

Commissioner Kanjewe holds an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Management from the Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI), and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from Andrews University, Michigan, USA.

He is also former Member of Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (CIMA) UK, board chairperson of Malawi Leaf Company the 2017 to 2021 and chair of Finance Committee as a board Member of Auction Holdings Limited
